Our team of evacuee experience volunteers act out the role of World War 2 teachers, shopkeepers, air raid wardens and housewives.
Schools usually visit the fort between 10 am and 2 pm, with on hands activities taking place in the Fort’s World War 2 rooms; these include a shop, schoolroom, kitchen and canteen. The children also experience what it would have been like in an air raid shelter during an air raid.
The Evacuee Team undertakes an important educational role, which is both enjoyable and rewarding. New members are always made most welcome and initially work alongside existing team members before taking charge of a group of evacuees. The size of the groups usually ranges between 6-12 with a teacher or parent accompanies them.
If you would like further information on this very rewarding role please contact the Volunteer Liaison Officer.
