  • We have an accessible route into Reception, please ask for assistance and directions.
  • There are various ramps located around the Parade Ground.
  • There is a lift at the far end of the Parade Ground which can take you to either the Magazine Level or the Ramparts as required.
  • We have wheelchairs available around the Nothe Fort.
  • Please note the dimensions for wheelchair access into the lift are 1150mm X 850mm. This unfortunately means that some large mobility scooters with high backs are unable to fit into the lift.

Assistance animals are very welcome at the Nothe Fort, if they need a water bowl, please ask a member of our team.

We have one accessible toilet at the Fort, and another is located in the Fort View Café.

Please see our access guide to help you plan your visit.

Hearing Loops are fitted at the Reception desks.

Please note that these may not be compatible with every type of hearing aid.

Ear defenders are available to borrow from Reception. Please return these at the end of your visit.

There are Council operated car parks in Nothe Gardens (what3words///noises.zealous.spine). Parking charges may apply.

There are 9 disabled parking bays in Nothe Gardens. 3 of these disabled parking bays are situated close to Nothe Fort.

Nothe Fort is currently responding the the Access Groups recommendations as part of our Forward Plan.

Read our local access group’s report.

If you require a carer to facilitate your visit, one registered carer will be admitted free of charge.

You may be asked to provide evidence so please bring a copy of DLA, PIP letter, GP letter or similar.

Quiet Hour

Join us for our Quiet Hour for families and individuals who require a quieter and calmer environment.

During this hour, sound will be switched off in our exhibitions. This hour is suitable for those with sensory needs, but anyone who would prefer to explore in this quiet time is more than welcome.

The Quiet Hour includes access to the entirety of the museum currently open to the public.

There will be two Quiet Hours per month.

1st Sunday of the month, 10am-11am

3rd Sunday of the month, 3pm-4pm

This Nothe Fort Access Guide has been created to enable visitors to plan their visit before they come to the Fort.

This film was created by Our Voice Filmmaking Club, a filmmaking club for adults with learning disabilities (supported by Pageant Productions).

Nothe Fort was praised by the 2022 Visit England award judges for its accessibility:

“considering it was originally designed to keep people out!”
