What is the exhibition about?

The Longest Yarn 2 Britain at War is an art exhibition that explores life in Britain during World War II, and is displayed as 80 impressive panels of knitted and crocheted scenes.

“The Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War” is follow-up exhibition to the original “The Longest Yarn”, which commemorated the D-Day Landings.
This new exhibition focuses on significant events in Britain, dating from the declaration of war from 3 September 1939, to VE Day on 8 May 1945. Scenes explore all aspects of life at the time, including rationing, evacuees, the Blitz, and the King’s Speech.

Nothe Fort will be hosting The Longest Yarn 2 Britain at War exhibition in July 2026 – exact dates to be announced. 

All 80 panels of textile vignettes will be on display inside Nothe Fort, and the route to view these in order will be clearly marked for visitors.

Entry to the exhibition will be included in the price of admission, and will be FREE for Annual Pass holders.

Entry to The Longest Yarn 2 Britain at War exhibition is included in the price of admission to Nothe Fort, and is free for Annual Pass holders.

Any pre-bought tickets can be validated on another day if you are not able to make the date you originally booked.

Your Admission ticket grants access to all areas of the Fort that are open to the public, as well as entry to The Longest Yarn 2 Britain at War exhibition.

There is so much to do at the Fort! You can explore the maze of underground tunnels; visit our Victorian Gun Deck; sit on our impressive WW2 gun high up on our Ramparts; discover our secret underground Nuclear Bunker or simply enjoy our stunning 360 degree views of Dorset’s Jurassic Coast.

Each Admission ticket includes a Free Annual Pass, so you may return as many times as you like for free within a 12 month period.

The Fort View Café will also be open during the exhibition run.

Nothe Fort does not have designated parking. The nearest car parks are as follows:

Is there anything for children to do at the Fort?

During The Longest Yarn 2 Britain at War exhibition, the Fort will be hosting a range of activities for children, including a knitted Mouse Hunt, workshops and more.

Is there a café at the Fort?

Yes, the Fort View Cafe will be open 10am – 3pm during the exhibition.

 

The Café offers a wide range of hot and cold food options, with plenty of tasty treats and drinks.

The Café is family-friendly – with accessible toilet, baby changing, bottle warming service, and a kids menu.

How long does a visit to the exhibition and Nothe Fort take?

We recommend leaving yourself at least 3 hours to explore both The Longest Yarn exhibition and the three levels of Nothe Fort.
