We are delighted to announce that Dorset Council has awarded £137,751 through its Local Regeneration Fund (LRF) to support vital waterproofing works at Nothe Fort.
This investment will help protect one of Weymouth’s most loved historic landmarks by reducing water ingress and improving internal conditions for collections, exhibitions, events and visitors.
Keeping the building dry is essential to safeguarding the Fort’s fabric and ensuring it can continue to be enjoyed by the local community, schools and visitors throughout the year.
The works form part of Nothe Fort’s wider, ongoing programme to address long‑standing damp issues and improve the overall visitor experience. We are currently in the planning stage, with waterproofing work expected to begin in late spring to early summer.
Once underway, people can expect to see activity on site as this important phase of conservation progresses.
Dorset Council has highlighted the importance of the project in protecting a place that people care deeply about, while also supporting Weymouth’s year‑round visitor offer, local jobs and volunteering. For Nothe Fort, this funding represents another important step in securing the long‑term future of the site.
We are extremely grateful to Dorset Council for its continued support, and to our community and stakeholders who have helped make this funding possible.
Further updates will be shared as the project moves forward and work begins on site.
